It can't be Christmas every day. In the penultimate round of the Sochi Grand Prix, six games ended in a draw, and four of them rather quickly. Wang Yue-Navara and Cheparinov-Al-Modiahki were rather interesting fights and in the (end)game of the day, Svidler managed to score the only victory, against Jakovenko. Aronian retains sole lead with 7.5/12.

The 10th round of the Sochi Grand Prix was clearly the most spectacular so far. At an early stage, three games were suddenly decided, and none of these were drawn! Aronian beat Cheparinov with Black to take over the lead from his direct opponent; he shares it with Gashimov, Wang Yue and Radjabov, who came back on top.

Round 9: Wang Yue beats Radjabov to join lead with Cheparinov

It’s about time to stop mentioning the Beijing Olympics and the Chinese number 8, and start confirming that Wang Yue is just a very strong chess player. Once more he showed fine technique in a bishop ending, and defeated Radjabov to take over the lead. He's topping the standings with Cheparinov, who easily drew Ivanchuk.
